I made the image of the handprints at a temple in Chengdu (China), and the image of the wind-blown prayer and dappled light at a beautiful monastery in Kangding (Eastern Tibet). In Tibet, it’s believed that the wisdom and compassion contained in a prayer is dispersed on the wind, benefiting all beings. To me, this image pairing is about how tenuous and gorgeous life is. We’re here for such a short time - and this print reminds me to stop, breathe, and center myself, so I can feel more connected to my experience. I made this image at 6am on a 13,000-foot mountain pass in Eastern Tibet. The goal was to see the sunrise, but it was completely shrouded in fog (and more beautiful for it). I loved seeing this lone horse walking quietly through the mist. I recommend the 16x16” print - it absolutely sings as a larger landscape (I have it displayed in my home at that size). I made this image while camping in Joshua Tree National Park. Someone lit two candles to honor Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest that begins each Friday at sundown. This image is a diptych, though it reads as a single frame. The moon image was made on a cold, clear night at the Oregon coast. It’s a meditation on presence and peace. I made this image on a country roadside, just outside my ancestral town of Palombara Sabina, about an hour outside of Rome. I traveled there to connect with my family history. Shortly before closing a significant chapter and completely reimagining my life, I started finding feathers on my walks - and conjured up this image. Later, in a vivid dream, I saw stars rising from my neck and shoulders, so I added delicate details with gold pigment. This image feels like a powerful talisman.
