This month is about taking a deep breath and letting go - letting go of the need to make perfect art, letting go of "shoulds." We embrace our beautiful, messy, fabulous process and drop unhelpful beliefs that hold us back. Whew! It feels so good.

What you get:

  • Monthly Reflection: I discuss the stories we tell ourselves as artists...about how good or bad we are...about what we can and can’t do. What happens when we drop the baggage and reclaim our natural wisdom? Brilliant things, it turns out.
  • Creative Experiment: Create with wild abandon! We shake things up and make striking, freeing, rule-breaking images. A powerful way to supercharge your creative spirit.
  • Interview: I talk with street and documentary photographer Bobby Abrahamson about photographing strangers (even though he's shy by nature) and bringing people's true stories alive in photographs.

This month, I share brand new images, hot off the press! I also chat about making intuitive, emotional images of the landscape. And, we experiment with a calming, Zen approach to landscape photography.

What you get:

  • Monthly Reflection: I share new images I've been making at the moody, foggy Oregon coast and talk about creating diptychs and quiet, peaceful, contemplative photographs.
  • Creative Experiment: The world is a chaotic place and it's easy to make cluttered images. What happens if we embrace radical simplicity?
  • Interview: I chat with photographer Cheryl St. Onge about her stunningly gorgeous photographs of her children and the natural world.

We're keeping it real this month - talking about deep honesty, vulnerability, and authenticity in art making. Images are more powerful when they're wholehearted. We talk about how to get there.

What you get:

  • Monthly Reflection: A powerful talk about authenticity and the creative practice. Does your art really, truly feel like you? Or, are you trying to please other people? Learn to bravely recalibrate towards authenticity so your creative spirit can shine.
  • Creative Experiment: What do your images say about who you are as a person? What do you want them to say about you? What if you considered every image a self portrait? This is about adding more of the photographer to the photograph. The more you add, the juicier it gets.
  • Interview: I talk with photographer Kerry Mansfield about her striking, honest images about healing from breast cancer and finding strength in mental illness.

This month, we turn our attention to creative self care - nourishing the inner artist. This is a beautiful invitation to support yourself with more kindness so you feel energized in your creative work.

What you get:

  • Monthly Reflection: I talk about deepening our awareness of atmosphere in our images (filtered light, gorgeous shadow, the elements). This will take your photography beyond the humdrum and into the realm of true art.
  • Creative Experiment: We can't create all the time - sometimes we need to fill ourselves up to invigorate the creative spirit. Learn to approach self care as a deep personal practice
  • Interview: Photographer Stu Levy and I chat about working with Ansel Adams, photographing the Grateful Dead, and making witty, wonderful multi-image grids.

This month is all about brave art making. We go big, bold, and brilliant. We call ourselves artists - and we mean it. We give ourselves permission. If trusting your creative choices feels tough, this month is for you.

What you get:

  • Monthly Reflection: Do you feel you need permission in any part of your creative practice? How does that shift what you create - and how you create it? How can you reclaim your power as an artist? This talk goes there.
  • Creative Experiment: We use courage & strength as a "lens" this month - making images that are bold, powerful, and fearless.
  • Interview: I chat with photographer Manjari Sharma about photographing her mother and daughter, crafting meticulous, amazing images of Hindu gods and goddesses, and taking pictures of strangers in her shower (!). There are so many gems in this rich, beautiful talk.

This month is all about embracing flow - that brilliant state where creative magic happens. We get loose as we pull images together based on light, color, form - and let go of overthinking our choices. It’s so freeing!

WHAT YOU GET:

  • Monthly Reflection: I share my organic, free-form portfolio building process - along with some brand new color images that mean a lot to me. I also share an image I overlooked at first and then fell in love with. Love it when that happens!
  • Creative Experiment: What would happen if you intuitively, emotionally created a portfolio in just ten short minutes? We replicate my loose, easy portfolio-building technique and make some magic happen!
  • Interview: I chat with Peruvian photographer Raphael Soldi about his empowering move to start his own artist’s collective. We also talk about making deeply personal work that’s not too “navel gazy,” and crafting exquisite exhibitions.
